She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Audition Requirements

  • No monologue is necessary. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A headshot and resume are recommended but not required.
  • Please bring a detailed list of conflicts for the next 3 months.

Roles

Available roles: 6 female, 4 male

All roles will require some stage combat. Experience is a plus, but not required.
Ages for these roles are those that appear 20s-30s. Many characters are scripted as high school students, but will be played by older actors who can act/appear as high schoolers through voice and body postures

  • Agnes Evans (female):

    Absolutely average. Average height, hair, grief- Oh right, she’s grieving the loss of her younger sister. Agnes is a high school teacher who is starting to question if she’s on the right journey in life. Requires moments of intimacy with a male actor.

  • Tilly Evans (female)

    She’s dead. Spoiler alert. However, she’s well known in the gamer community. Fearless, strong, and motived – everything one needs in a Paladin. Requires moments of intimacy with a female actor.

  • Chuck (male)

    The man. Maybe. Works at a gaming store and definitely has a girlfriend, she just lives out of town. Chuck is the DM (Dungeon Master) for this adventure.

  • Miles (male)

    Agnes’ boring boyfriend of forever who is too grown up for his own good. Also doubles as some of our fav DND monsters. Requires moments of intimacy with a female actor

  • Kaliope/Kelly (female)

    Evil(ish) Elf in our party. Think Xena Warrior Princess. Could she wear more clothes? Probably. Will she? No, because she doesn’t have to.

  • Lilith/Lilly (Female)

    Demonic fighter. Tough as nails and she lets you know it. Requires moments of intimacy with a female actor.

  • Vera/Evil Gabbi/The Beholder

    Agnes’ bestie, but not the best guidance counselor. Doubles as Succubus Evil Gabbi and The Beholder, as well as more of our fav DND monsters.

  • Narrator/Evil Tina/The Faerie (female)

    Our guide through this story, doubles as Succubus Evil Tina and a faerie that can kick your ass. Also more of our fav DND monsters.

  • Steve (male)

    The Kenny of our party, he always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Lots of physical comedy. Also plays several of our fav DND monsters.

  • Orcus/Ronnie (male)

    Overlord of the Underworld and big fan of 90s tv. Pretty funny for a guy with horns.
