Bernard — Male, 30s–40s
An American bachelor living in Paris and working as an architect. Bernard is charming, confident, and self-assured—a consummate “ladies’ man” who believes he has romantic relationships figured out. He is engaged to three airline hostesses and uses flight schedules to maintain his carefully orchestrated arrangement, ensuring that “one is up, one is down, and one is pending.” Bernard takes considerable pride in his deception until an unexpected change in circumstances causes his elaborate system to unravel—and his confidence along with it.
